Lithuanian Ombudsperson for children rights Mrs.E.Žiobienė is planning to participate in the International Conference on Pedophilia which takes place on the 22 of January 2011 in Kaunas. However, this can happen on one condition only - she insists that her personal security should be guaranteed. It raises one serious question: how Ombudsperson, who is responsible for safety and security of children, can protect children when feeling fear and asking for protection herself?

The reason for her anxiety might come from her
previous fall-out with people protesting against little D. Kedytė’s – the victim of sexual assault - urgent transfer to the custody of her biological mother L. Stankūnaitė, who remains under protection of the state in status of a ‘special witness’. Mrs E.Žiobienė’s slip of the tongue was her famous statement made soon after her appointment to the Ombudsperson’s position that when it comes down to any child’s well-being “the worst mother is preferred against the best foster parent” which anger members of public to this day. To make matters worse she lost her temper because of the continuous protests and a petition signed by hundreds of Drasius Kedys’ supporters for her dismissal as unfit for the position, and publicly assaulted supporters by calling them “a purple crowd” while handing in her resignation. However, she was later persuaded to stay in the position and secured it by the parliamentary vote.

The very unpleasant truth is that Mrs E.Žiobienė is deeply concerned for her own safety, although never requested or at least made an effort to protect the only remaining witness in the so called Kaunas’ pedophilia case with her third unidentified abuser at large. Also, she stays completely indifferent to children rights to a safe, secure and protected from sexual abuse life in the state children facilities, where regular and numerous pedophilic activities take place without any serious investigation, let alone punishment. No wonder Mrs E.Žiobienes’ perception of herself in public eyes is as that of the most hated person.
